R U OK? Day activities recognised
The R U OK? Day official charity has recognised Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óȫ’s coordinated, whole-school approach which focused on meaningful activities and lessons to help students have discussions around mental health.
R U OK? Day featured Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« as a , as well as on their social media channels highlighting how connections can be made in the classrooms and at home.
Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« extended the official day into a week-long initiative with age-appropriate lessons delivered to specific year groups via extended rollcalls.
Older students led younger students in mindful colouring activities and the making of ‘sunshines’ to pass onto friends and all students wore yellow on the official day to bring awareness.
The library also put together a comprehensive range of resources centred on mental health and wellbeing for all ages.
On the school’s management platform MyÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ´óÈ«, a dedicated homepage was created to bring together information and stories that were available to parents, students and staff, creating a space for conversations to be had at home as well as at school. The page was viewed over 3,000 times.
Social media was also used to positively spread key messages and involve students in the discussion. The ‘It doesn’t matter how you ask. Just ASK’ Instagram reel featured students asking, ‘Are you OK?’ in different languages, helping to show our community that it really doesn’t matter how you ask the question, you just need to ask.
A group of Year 9 students created another Instagram video outlining the four steps to an R U OK? conversation. These videos helped normalise an R U OK? conversation for students and show just how simple it can be.
